Oklahoma State easily won the 21st Annual Amer Ari Intercollegiate Golf Tournament’s team title but it took seven play-off holes before the individual title was determined at the Waikoloa Kings’ Golf Course-Hawaii.

OSU tallied a 34-under-par 830 followed by Texas (835), UCLA (836), Georgia Tech (844), USC (845), Texas Tech (848), TCU and Arizona State (850), Oregon (854), UC Davis (856), Stanford (858), Washington (859), Oregon State (862), San Francisco (869), Colorado (871), San Jose State (878), Western Washington (885), Hawaii (888), Florida State (891) and host Hawaii Hilo (892).

Oregon’s Daniel Miernicki birdied the final hole to beat UCLA’s Patrick Cantlay for the title. Miernicki started the tournament with a course-record 10-under-par 62 followed by a 3-under-par in the second round. He turned in an even-par 72 to finish at 13-under-par 203. Meanwhile, Cantlay opened the tournament with a 2-over-par 74 before turning in rounds of 64 and 65.

“I played pretty bad today and just held it together,” said Miernicki. “It’s a great feeling.”

Not to be left out, defending tournament champion Bobby Hudson of Texas went eagle, birdie, birdie on his final three holes to make it a three-way battle for the title.

It wasn’t until the fifth playoff hole before the Hudson was lost his momentum. His second shot on the par-5, 18th-hole landed in the front sand trap. His next shot flew over the green and stopped in a backside sand trap leading to his elimination.

After Cantlay’s second shot on the 18th hole fell short and below the hole, Miernicki took an aggressive approach and landed 10 feet from the hole. Cantlay’s chip shot bounded 15-feet beyond the mark. Miernicki two-putted for the win.

Neil Cabico turned in his second sub-par round of the tournament to finish in a tie for 28th place at 3-under-par 213 (72-70-71). He was followed by Travis Russell (T86, 73-73-78=224), Nick Matsushima (T96, 71-77-79=227), Blake Snyder (T104, 74-80-76=230) and Christian Agosto (T110, 79-78-82=239).

Also in the field for the Vulcans were Chris Shimomura (T93, 75-74-77=226), Corey Kozuma (106, 76-76-79=231) and Chris Armanini (114, 81-85-78=244).
