DLNR reopens Big Island forest reserves and game management areas

MEDIA RELEASE

Effective Tuesday, January 25, 2011, the Fire Closure affecting Mauna Kea Forest Reserve, Puu Waawaa Forest Reserve, Kaohe Game Management Area and Puu Anahulu Game Management Area is cancelled. Recent rains have provided enough moisture to encourage vegetation recovery to reopen areas that have been closed due to high fire danger.

Although public use is returned to normal, everyone is reminded to still be cautious of fire potential in these areas. Light fuels such as grass, dry out quickly in the sun and wind. They may still catch fire even after the recent rains.
