Stove fire damages Hilo apartment unit Thursday (Jan 20)

Fire/rescue crews responded to an 8:23 p.m. alarm Thursday (Jan 20) to 139 Kapiolani Street in Hilo for a stove fire.

Upon arrival firefighters found that the fire had been put out by an employee at Kunori Pacific College using a fire extinguisher. The cause of the fire was reported to be an unattended pot on a stove.

Damage was estimated to be $5,000 with the fire contained to the kitchen stove and hood in the single bedroom apartment. There were no injuries reported in the blaze.
