The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii a luxury AAA Four Diamond resort has recently added Flo-yo to its list of water fitness offerings.

Practiced on a stand up paddle board, Flo-yo (Floating Yoga), connects the mind, body and breath while balancing above the calm waters of Hawaii and demonstrates benefits of building strength through balance and resistance.

Flo-yo takes stand up paddle boarding beyond just riding the waves, it’s an ideal sport to learn on flat bodies of water and incorporates a fun workout with the sensation of walking on water.

A total core workout; stand up paddling and Flo-yo work your entire body and mind.

“We are delighted to be able to offer Flo-yo to our guests, it is a great workout that is perfect for anyone who would like to take yoga to an entirely new level, while also taking in the natural beauty of our surroundings. Each class is different and the spontaneity of the ocean with turtles gliding up to your board, and fish dancing along the waves always makes for a fun class,” instructor Donica Shouse said.

The hour-long classes are offered 7 a.m. Monday and Friday (while the waters are still calm) and include a warm up, sun salutations, balancing poses and paddle techniques followed by 40 minutes of floating yoga. The boards are weighted down with a hand weights attached to the leash plug, ensuring the boards stay within one area.

Previous yoga or stand up paddle board experience is recommended.
