Family Support Hawaii hosting a free light bulb and book exchange

MEDIA RELEASE

Family Support Hawaii (FSH) will be hosting a monthly light bulb and book exchange in January, February and March. The exchange will be held the second Wednesday of the month, now through March at Old Kona Airport’s Na Kamalei Playground from 10:00 AM to noon. The public is invited to exchange their old power-hungry incandescent bulbs for energy-efficient Compact Florescent Light bulbs — absolutely free! Interested parties can also participate in a book exchange or simply donate their used books, plus receive literacy info and free bookmarks.

“This is the perfect opportunity for people to migrate over to CFL bulbs without the cost associated with the more expensive technology,” said Shannon Ramirez, FSH’s program manager. “While CFL bulbs typically come with a pretty hefty price tag, they can more than make up for the price by helping you save a bundle on your electric bills every month. CFL bulbs use up to 75% less electricity than incandescent bulbs, while providing just as much light,” Ramirez added.

FSH’s Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY), AmeriCorps program is partnering with The Kohala Center, Blue Planet Foundation, and Hawaii Energy to host these CFL exchanges during their regularly-scheduled “Reading Is Fundamental” events.
