…HIGH SURF ADVISORY FOR NORTH AND EAST FACING SHORES OF NIIHAU KAUAI OAHU MOLOKAI MAUI AND THE BIG ISLAND…

.AN INTENSE LOW CENTERED IN THE GULF OF ALASKA LAST THURSDAY HAS SENT NORTH SWELLS TOWARD THE ISLANDS. THE SWELLS WILL ARRIVE OVERNIGHT…PEAK SUNDAY AND MONDAY…THEN SLOWLY LOWER MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY.

…HIGH SURF ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 6 AM HST TUESDAY…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HONOLULU HAS ISSUED A HIGH SURF ADVISORY…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 6 AM HST TUESDAY.

* SURF…SURF ALONG NORTH FACING SHORES WILL RISE TO 12 TO 15 FEET. SURF ALONG EAST FACING SHORES THAT ARE EXPOSED TO THE NORTH SWELL WILL INCREASE TO 8 TO 12 FEET.

* TIMING…SURF WILL RISE TO ADVISORY LEVELS TONIGHT…PEAK SUNDAY AND MONDAY…THEN SLOWLY LOWER MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY.

* IMPACTS…INEXPERIENCED SWIMMERS SHOULD AVOID ENTERING THE WATER ALONG NORTH AND EAST FACING SHORES. THE LARGE SWELL WILL PRODUCE STRONG RIP CURRENTS WHICH COULD OVERPOWER EVEN STRONG SWIMMERS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A HIGH SURF ADVISORY MEANS THAT HIGH SURF WILL AFFECT BEACHES IN THE ADVISORY AREA…PRODUCING RIP CURRENTS AND LOCALIZED BEACH EROSION.
