Lava Tree State Monument park in Puna reopened

MEDIA RELEASE

HILO – Lava Tree State Monument reopened Monday (Dec 13) following completion of tree trimming around the parking lot area, reconstruction of the park entry road and parking lot, including ADA parking stalls, and repaving and striping.

The project began in September when the park was temporarily closed for these tasks. Project contractor was Isemoto Contracting Co and project cost is $233,109.

Future park improvement phases — not yet scheduled — will address the repaving of the walkways, rebuilding of the pavilion, installation of an informational kiosk, construction of a covered rest station and renovation of the comfort station.
