Traffic Enforcement Unit and Puna Community Policing officers conducted a DUI sobriety checkpoint on Pahoa Village Road fronting Pahoa High and Intermediate School at 3 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 14).
Boys and girls from the PÄhoa Boys and Girls Club also participated by waving signs to the passing motorists advising them not to drink and drive during the holiday season.
Officers contacted 223 drivers during the checkpoint.
Police will be increasing DUI sobriety checkpoints throughout the island during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
