Coroner’s inquest for body found in Papaikou

MEDIA RELEASE

Big Island police have initiated a coroner’s inquest case in connection with a body found Sunday (Dec. 12) in Papaikou.

South Hilo patrol officers responded to a 6:24 p.m. call reporting an unresponsive man on the Papaikou Beach Trail off Mill Road. Beach goers reported they found the man face down on the trail.

Fire Department personnel took him to Hilo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He was identified as 44-year-old Norman Lyman III, formerly of Hilo, who was living on Kauai.

Police do not suspect foul play. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
