‘Small steps’ for Wang; surgery planned for Tuesday

Karin Stanton | Hawaii 24/7 Editor

More good news for Theresa Wang, the Waikoloa doctor injured in the Nov. 19 car crash that also injured former UH quarterback Colt Brennan and Kona woman Shakti Stream.

Wang’s husband, David Chen, is with her at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu and has been providing email updates.

Late Sunday, Chen said his wife’s condition has improved over the last couple of days and she is now cleared for neck surgery, possibly Tuesday.

“Small steps: that is a good way to describe Theresa’s recovery,” Chen wrote.

Chen reports she has opened her eyes, flexed her fingers, wiggled her toes and even nodded her head in agreement while a nurse was speaking to her.

Tests also showed swelling to Wang’s brain has subsided over the weekend.

“So neck surgery is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday and once again, I request your prayers for a successful outcome,” Chen wrote. “God has a plan and timetable for Theresa’s recovery and I don’t believe He consulted with the surgeons about it. Let time take its course and all will be well as long as we believe.”
