Colt Brennan, former University of Hawaii standout quarterback, was reported in stable condition late Saturday at The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu.

His girlfriend, of Kona, and a Waikoloa woman also remain hospitalized following the head-on crash Friday morning along Queen Kaahumanu Highway.

Brennan’s parents, Terry and Betsy, arrived Saturday afternoon from their home in California.

Terry told Honolulu media his son, 27, suffered broken ribs and a broken left collarbone, and he is still being monitored for head trauma. He added the injuries are not life-threatening.

Brennan’s girlfriend, Shakti Stream, 27, reportedly also suffered a broken collarbone. She was still hospitalized Saturday in Kona.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 47-year-old Waikoloa woman, who has yet to be identified, was flown Friday to Oahu and reportedly suffered serious leg injuries.

Police said they opened two negligent injury investigations and are continuing their investigation into the cause of the collision, including looking into possible malfunction of the brakes on Stream’s SUV.

Police and emergency crews responded to the two-vehicle crash shortly after 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19 on the Queen Kaahumanu Highway in the area of Makalawena near the 90-mile marker in North Kona.

Police reported Stream was driving when her 1997 Toyota SUV crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 1996 Saab sedan that was headed south.

The roadway was closed to traffic for almost two hours.

Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact Officer Paula Jelsma at 326-4646, extension 253.
