National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week

Deputy Managing Director Wally Lau gave a personal perspective as the Kona community participated in a walk from Hale Halawai to the Friendly Place on Monday, Nov. 15 as part of 2010 National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.

A Night Without Walls & Candlelight Vigil will also be observed Wednesday, Nov. 17 at Kalakaua Park followed by Homeless Awareness Community Fairs: Nov. 18 at Hale Halawai; Nov. 19 at Pahoa Neighborhood Facility; and Nov. 20 at Wailoa State Park.

Paula Demello of HOPE Services Hawaii, Office for Social Ministry, Catholic Charities, Habitat for Humanity, Family Support Services of West Hawaii, New Hope Church, Mokuaikaua Church, St. Michael’s Church, Da Poi Bowl, Steadfast Housing, Child & Family Services, Bridgehouse, QLT, and Neighborhood Place are among the supporters and participants in the National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week.

This year’s theme, “Bringing America Home” is to raise awareness about our kupuna, neighbors, and fellow Americans who need continued support in Hawaii County.
