Kaiser Permanente opens South Kona clinic Tuesday (Nov 16)

MEDIA RELEASE

Kaiser Permanente Hawaii today celebrates the opening of its South Kona Clinic on the Big Island with a traditional Hawaiian blessing ceremony and open house attended by business leaders, members, and the general public. The new clinic, located in Kealakekua, is open for appointments beginning November 16 and will initially offer adult primary care.

“We are pleased to provide increased access to health care services and convenience for our members in South Kona. Combined with our existing Kona Clinic in the Hualalai Medical Center, the community in the area will be well-served,” said Kaiser Permanente’s Dr. Daryl Kurozawa, general surgeon and Associate Medical Director of the Neighbor Islands. “We look forward to welcoming our members to our new clinic.” The new 3,435-square foot clinic is in addition to Kaiser Permanente’s Waimea, Kona, and Hilo clinics on the Big Island. It is located at 81-6350 Mamalahoa Highway, Unit #2, next to Sakamoto Electric.

The new clinic will be open for adult primary care appointments 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed for lunch 12:30-1:30 p.m.), Monday through Friday. Members may call 747-8800 for appointments. Primary care physicians who will serve the new clinic will be from the current Kona Clinic, including: Drs. Lisa Barville, David Kwiat, Joanne Lombardi, Eric Lindborg, and Robin Seto. Pharmacy services will be provided by Oshima’s Drugs and Kaiser Permanente’s Kona Clinic Pharmacy. Members are also encouraged to refill routine prescriptions on kp.org or by calling 1-888-867-2118.

Guests at today’s open house will also have the opportunity to tour through Kaiser Permanente’s Mobile Health Vehicle (MHV), introduced to the Big Island community last year, further expanding Kaiser Permanente’s commitment to make health care more accessible and convenient for its members. The MHV is the nation’s most technologically advanced medical vehicle on wheels, offering state-of-the-art digital mammography, basic exams and screening services, flu shots and pneumovax vaccines. The 45-foot long, 10-wheel vehicle serves members near Kaiser Permanente’s Hilo, Waimea, and Kona clinics.
