Sunday’s Child Foundation keiki programs

MEDIA RELEASE

Sunday’s Child Foundation organizes fun-filled adventures for foster and at-risk youth residing within Hawaii. Due to the generous support of our kamaiana community, it has many unique and beautiful locations for Hawaii’s children to play with mentors, who have a strong desire to bring joy and hope to these children.

The first of its Fall programs is an Adventure Sailing experience on Nov. 13 from Kawaihae Harbor on the vessel, Maile. Kids ages 6 to 17 are welcome and the fee is $5. Lunch and beverages are provided.

On Dec. 18, SCF is giving a lavish and festive Christmas holiday feast for 50 island keiki at Hokukano Bayhouse in Keauhou; and both day and overnight trips are in the works at two beautiful locations at Makalawena Beach Park and Anna Ranch in the early part of 2011. Look out for a Dolphin Quest experience this Winter, as well.

“Our mission is to restore hope, and bring joy and love to children in our community that are in need,” said executive director, Lauren Rainier. “If we can provide a fun and warm environment for our keiki to express themselves, then they will be better able to cope with the challenges they face. We want them to know that they are not alone and we are here to listen and offer guidance.”

Last month, Sunday’s Child Foundation held a fundraiser in Kona in an effort to build their mentorship program.

“We are getting the word out and a greater number of established nonprofits that work with at-risk youth here are partnering with us, which is making the challenge of reaching these kids a lot easier,” Rainier said.

Sunday’s Child Foundation keeps its program fees to a minimum with the generous support of the Big Island’s corporate community and private donors.
