A public meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18 at Kealakehe Elementary School cafeteria to inform the community about a site selection study for a court complex in Kona, and to receive input on the process, the potential sites, and the Environmental Impact Statement Preparation Notice (EISPN).

Representatives from Group 70 International, Inc., the Department of Accounting and General Services, and the Hawaii State Judiciary will be present.

As required by the state’s environmental review law, an EISPN was filed with the Office of Environmental Quality Control (OEQC) and will be published Nov. 8 at http://hawaii.gov/health/environmental/oeqc/index.html

Among other information, the 40-page EISPN explains the purpose and need for a site selection study for a Kona judiciary complex, and contains a preliminary list of the ten potential sites that will be evaluated.

The candidate site found to be most qualified will be evaluated in a draft Environmental Impact Statement.

Agencies, groups and individuals have 30 days from the EISPN publication date to submit written comments regarding the potential environmental effects and to request to become a consulting party.
