Police warn of telephone scam

MEDIA RELEASE

Big Island police are warning the public about a telephone scam.

The caller leaves a voice mail message claiming that that the recipient’s Bank of Hawaii or First Hawaiian Bank credit card or debit cart has been deactivated. The message asks the intended victim to call a telephone number.

When the intended victim calls that number, an automated voice asks the intended victim to enter a credit card or debit card account number.

Police remind the public not to give out financial information to suspicious callers.
