A .467 attack percentage made quick work of the Academy of Art University as the University of Hawaii at Hilo celebrated Senior Night with a 3-0 victory in the Pacific West Conference match Sunday (Oct 31).
The Vulcans (17-3 overall, 12-1 PacWest) collected 42 kills on 75 attempts with only seven errors.
For the seniors – Hillary Hurley, Emily Tooker, Leilani Ramsey, Kawena Cubi-Otineru, Briana Boyce and Katie Swenson – it was a good night to say thank you to the Vulcan fans.
“We wanted to send them off in a good way and I think they did,” said UHH Head Coach Tino Reyes. “They are better people than volleyball players.”
Hurley led the way with 13 kills on 23 attempts with one error for a .522 attack percentage. Ramsey was more efficient with eight kills on 10 attempts with only one error (.700). Rachel Thornquist had six kills on 13 attempts with no errors (.462) while Cubi-Otineru had eight kills on 16 attempts with three errors. Boyce added three kills on four attempts with no errors.
Swenson tallied 35 assists, seven digs and a kill.
It was also an impressive night at the net as the Vulcans tallied nine team blocks. Tooker and Ramsey had four block assists each while Tooker also notched two solo blocks.
