Paauilo woman dies in truck crash (Oct. 31)

MEDIA RELEASE

A 47-year-old Paauilo woman died Sunday (October 31) from injuries she received in a one-vehicle crash on Kukaiau Ranch Road 3.6 miles south of Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) in Paauilo.

The victim was identified as Debra A. Alani, of a Paauilo address.

Responding to a 11:29 a.m. call, Honokaa patrol officers determined that the victim was operating a 2008 Ford pickup truck and traveling north on Kukaiau Ranch Road when she lost control and ran off the left side of the road down a 30-foot embankment and overturned. The driver was not wearing her seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.

The victim was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 6:30 p.m.

It is unknown at this time if speed, alcohol or drugs were involved.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers have initiated a coroner’s inquest case and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Police ask anyone with information about this crash to call Officer Clarence Davies at 961-8118.

Because this crash occurred on a private road, the death is not counted toward the island’s official traffic fatality count.

This was my mother. She was 5 minutes away from
Her house. She was on her way to church. She never drank neither did she smoke. She was a very precious woman and she was my best
Friend. She wasn’t wearing her seat belt because she would
Put it on when she reached the bottom on the main highway. I know for a fact she wasn’t speeding. It’s just weird because my dad was murdered and now my mom is gone. I don’t understand what’s going on. Only god knows what happened. And yes Jesus does not sleep. So I know he going take care. She was a big role in my
Sons life, now he has to go on in life missing his grandma
And always asking where is she. I love u with all my heart and soul mo
Thank you for being there and I am so honored to have u as my
Mother. Love you and may you R.I.P

May your precious mother rest in peace. My heart goes out to you after suffering two terrible losses. My only hope is that you stay strong after all both your mother and father live in you.

The Lion King Unfortunately the circle of life was much too fast.

Your son needs you now more than ever. Life isn’t fair. Please
stay positive. Only time will heal your heart. Every day is a gift. Please go back to your mom’s church and pray that God will heal your heart & soul.

P.S. Coming from the mainland last year I do think the comments section concerning the death of a person should be closed as is the case in Tampa, Florida. While most will agree we don’t do it like the mainland because this is Hawaii it’s best. That way the stupid comments from idiots won’t faze you as they won’t be allowed to post them.
