Cross Country: HPA girls second; Honokaa boys fifth

Hawaii Preparatory Academy girls cross country team ran into second place this week at the state meet on Oahu.

The team included Zoe Sims, Kela Vargas, Kristiana Van Pernis, Emily Evans, Mariah Haight, Sam Neal and Hana Scully.

In 12th place was Hilo, with runners Carmen Garson-Shumway, Shalila De Bournmont, Kaylee Rapoza, Karina Lawrence and Raycee Cooke.

Rounding out the Big Island representatives were Honokaa’s Tialana Greenwell, Hildang Adona, Katie Aguilar, Monica Carlos, Kelly Greenwell, Allie Shiraki and Kimberly Kishimoto. Honokaa came in 13th.

Meanwhile, on the boys side, Honokaa settled for fifth place overall.

The Honokaa boys team included Chris Mosch, Joshua Robinson, Bhayce Moniz, Robert Connors, Tony Connors, Dylan Shiraki and Brandon Mah.

Also making the Big Island proud was the Parker School team, which finished seventh in the state tournament.

That team include Jesse Tarnas, Daniel Gregg, Paul Gregg, Tyler McCullough, Kimo Hon, Jesse Burns and Evan Kasberg.

The HPA boys wound up 14th overall.
