A new era began as the University of Hawaii at Hilo beat the Alumni 90-49 in the UHH gym.

“It was okay for the first time out,” said first-year Head Coach David Kaneshiro. “We’ve got a ways to go and some work to do.”

For the past few weeks, Kaneshiro has been pulling together his squad of eight returnees and three newcomers.

“The execution wasn’t great but they’re trying to do the right things,” said Kaneshiro. “We’re slowly coming together and seeing what we want.

“It’s like anything else, the more you practice, the better we’ll get at it.”

Five players were in double-digit scoring for the Vulcans – Kirsty Imai (10), Hotia Vaaimamao (13), Dayna Jandoc (17), Jazmine Corpuz (12) and Kristen Woodring (14).
Hina Kimitete led the Alumni with 18 points.
