Restaurant thief sought in Hilo

Hilo robbery suspect

The Hawaii Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating and identifying an unknown male party responsible for a robbery that occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 21) in Hilo.

Hilo patrol officers responded to a restaurant in downtown Hilo and met with the victim who related that an unknown male party took his wife’s purse from a table while they were seated.

When the victim attempted to stop the suspect, the suspect punched him in the face.

The suspect is described as being in his mid 20’s, local, 5 feet 10 inches to 5 feet 11 inches, 250 pounds with a tattoo on his right outer calf.

Police ask anyone with information on the identity or whereabouts of the suspect to call Detective Ernest Matsumoto at 961-2379 or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 or 329-8181.
