Building code changes to be discussed

Public meetings are scheduled to discuss code amendments in Electrical Bill 268 (Draft 2), Plumbing Bill 269 and Building Bill 270.

On July 1, 2007, Gov. Linda Lingle signed legislation creating a statewide building code, amending the 2006 International Building Code (IBC), the 2005 Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), and the 2008 National Electrical Code (NEC), to apply a uniform statewide construction code.

Additionally, proposed amendments to the statewide codes that would affect administration, construction documents, plans, specifications, inspections, violations, enforcement and penalties are being considered by the Hawaii County Council

The Building Division of Public Works will be conducting two public meetings: Wednesday, Oct. 27 in Hilo at the Aupuni Conference Center on Pauahi Street, and Thursday, Oct. 28 in Kona at Hanama Place, 75-5706 Kuakini Highway.

Staff will brief residents of the proposed amendments and answer questions.
