Two missing hikers were found in safe early Saturday in the Kahaualea Natural Area Reserve near Volcano.

A 27-year-old man and 31-year-old woman, both from California, became disoriented while trying to hike out of the forest. The couple were lost several hours before calling 911 at about 7:50 p.m. Friday.

Fire crews were able to track the hikers’ GPS coordinates and found them about a mile east of the main trail after midnight.

Neither hiker required medical attention.
