McKenna, Seymour honored by Holualoa Foundation for Arts & Culture

The Holualoa Foundation for Arts and Culture has honored Mac McKenna and Scott Seymour with the 2010 Ua Makaukau Loa Award for Excellence in the Arts.

In its second year, the Ua Makaukau Loa Award honors the influence and inspiration from legendary artists in our community and recognized for their creative contributions and passionate perspectives on life and art.

McKenna, a painter and art instructor, has taught drawing and watercolor classes since the foundation was established 15 years ago.

Seymour, a landscape architect and master floral designer, is known for his gorgeous floral arrangements and for using native flowers in his designs.

The two were honored at at a special luncheon Sunday, Oct. 24 at the Donkey Mill Art Center.

McKenna and Seymour were presented with a framed Olona, native to the Islands of Hawaii, strongest fiber in the world. The Ua Makaukau Loa Award connects the recipients, the donor (the art center), and the origin from which it comes.

Speaking were founding president Hiroki Morinoue, executive director Kate Jacobson, Margaret Masunaga for Mayor Billy Kenoi, Marni Herkes, Kathleen Jaeger, Coral Mack, Jennifer Ching, Lisa Barbas, and Thalia Davis.
