Fire burns a boat and truck in Kona (Oct. 23)

MEDIA RELEASE

Fire/rescue units responded to a 2:31 p.m. alarm Saturday (Oct 23) for a fire involving a boat and vehicle in Kona off Kuakini Highway.

Upon arrival crews found a 15 foot fiberglass/wood boat on a trailer engulfed in flames, a mid-sized truck on fire and flames under a small house.

Steep terrain and thick brush made access to the fire with hoses difficult prompting firefighters to initially use buckets filled with water. Crews were later able to use fire hoses to extinguish the blaze and prevent surrounding brush from burning.

There were no injuries reported, no roadways closed and damage was estimated to be $4,000. The owner of the property was reportedly unknown and cause of the fire is under investigation.
