On Saturday, Oct. 16, just as the sun was rising over the peak of Hualalai, Kona Brewing Company’s brewstaff unloaded and installed a 20-foot-tall, 4,000-pound 80-barrel fermenter.

The new tank will allow the Kailua-Kona brewery a 1,000-barrel annual increase in capacity. Brewery roof panels were removed, allowing a crane to drop in its line from above to assist the brewstaff in righting the fermenter.

This is by no means the first expansion that this brewstaff has handled. Like pros, they unloaded the enormous vessel from its overseas shipping container, guided it into the brewhouse and, suspending its 4,000 pounds in mid-air, lifted it and placed it in position perfectly, all in under three hours.
