MEDIA RELEASE

Former Congressman Neil Abercrombie and Lt. Gov. James Duke Aiona have agreed to attend the only governor candidate debate on the Big Island.

The forum is 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at Kealakehe High School.

The evening begins at 5 p.m. with food sales by Tante’s Restaurant as a benefit for Rotary Sunrise and Kealakehe High Culinary Program. Aloha in Motion Trio, featuring Bobby Konanui, Konabob Stoffer, and Rupert Adarme will play before the forum.

The moderators will be Sherry Bracken, news reporter for Hawaii Public Radio and host of the LAVA 105.3 fm and KKOA 107.7 fm weekly broadcast, Island Issues, and KHON 2 reporter Gina Mangieri.

The moderators will pose all questions, and candidates will have a set amount of time in which to answer. Some of the questions will be in debate format with the candidates given an opportunity to respond to and rebut their opponent’s answers. They will also have the opportunity to question each other.

The forum will air live on LAVA 105.3 fm radio Monday evening at 6 p.m. on online, www.lava105.com

KHON 2 will film the forum and show excerpts of it Wednesday, Oct. 20.

Supporters of all candidates are welcome, but there will be no sign waving allowed on the campus or inside the forum.
