Hiroshima governor visiting Big Isle

Hiroshima Prefecture Gov. Hidehiko Yuzaki and Hiroshima Prefectural Assembly of Japan chairman Masao Hayashi and 13 other government officials arrived Tuesday evening at the Kona International Airport.

They were greeted by president of the Kona Hiroshima Kenjin Kai Claudia Chang, county deputy planning director Margaret Masunaga (on behalf of Mayor Billy Kenoi), Marni Herkes for the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce, Uki & Merna Izawa from the Kona Japanese Civic Association, and other members of the Kona Hiroshima Kenjin Kai club.

Yuzaki and Hayashi were to meet Wednesday with the Kona Hiroshima Kenjin Kai Board and dine with Kenoi and members of Hilo Kenjin Kai.

The Hiroshima government sponsors the International Youth Exchange Program with youth from Hawaii, the mainland and other parts of the world. The mayor, Chamber of Commerce and businessmen are inquiring about whether there can be direct airline flights from Hiroshima to Kona.
