The second time around is usually a little more difficult but in their second match with Dominican University in back-to-back nights the University of Hawaii at Hilo took just an hour and 21 minutes to dispatch the Penguins 3-0 in a Pacific West Conference match in San Rafael, Calif.
“They were better prepared for us tonight so we weren’t able to play everybody as much,†said UHH head coach Tino Reyes.
Set scores were 25-14, 25-22, 25-18. The Vulcans improved to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the PacWest while the Penguins are 2-15 overall and 0-6 in the conference.
Hillary Hurley had another big match with a .447 attack percentage resulting from 24 kills on 47 attempts with only three errors.
Leilani Ramsey and Rachael Thornquist added nine kills each. Thornquist also added a solo block and three block assists.
Patty Vine recorded 20 digs.
