Wave Gliders on agenda (Oct. 5)

When: 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 5
Where: Kealakehe High School Library

Wave Gliders: Solar and wave powered ocean robots that can sense tsunamis and monitor the ocean’s health for up to a year at a time … and they’re here on the Big Island! Presented by Dr. Eric Brager, Test and Evaluation Manager, Liquid Robotics.

First prototyped in 2005 in Puako, Liquid Robotics’ operations team is currently based in Kawaihae. Wave Gliders have covered more than 100,000 at sea miles in 11.5 years of combined fleet time, and are completely self-sustaining, using solar panels to power their payloads and the wave action of the ocean itself for movement.

The modular payload bay makes swapping monitoring equipment easy and efficient.
