American Cancer Society Relay For Life Waimea and Luminaria Ceremony Saturday-Sunday (Oct 2-3)

Cancer survivors and caregivers take the first lap at the Relay for Life event at Waimea Park Saturday night (Oct 17, 2009). The 7th Annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Waimea, set to begin at 5:00pm on Saturday, October 2, with the survivors dinner followed by the first lap at 6:30pm through 6:30am Sunday, October 3, 2010 at Anderson Arena, mile maker 51 on Mamalahoa Hwy heading towards Honokaa. This event is a celebration of cancer survivors and a fun way to raise vital funds needed to help find a cure for cancer. The event will celebrate the lives of hundreds of local residents who have survived cancer, while offering the hope of find a cure. Some 225 walkers are hoping to raise $51,000 to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Relay For Life of Waimea is an overnight community event bringing together teams of families, friends, churches, neighborhood and business – all with the same goal of conquering cancer. Team of Walkers keeps continuous presences on the track throughout the night, walking in shifts to raise funds. Thank you to the following teams, CBMR Blond-terage, Hawaii Preparatory Academy, HFS Federal Credit Union, Hope Rebels, Imiola Church, Kainoa Ohana, Kamuela Friends and Family, Raiders of the lost art, Team Canada France, Team HELCO, Team Kaiser, Team Keck, Team Resurrection 1 And 2, Primerica Financial Services, Team ASEA, Team Kanu O Ka Aina, Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort, North Hawaii Community Hospital and Team Mauna Kea Resort..

A full agenda of entertainment is planned, including music provided by Greg Rideout, Mel Paio and Friends, Rastar, Cameron Hart, Zumba provided by Le’a Le’a Fitness located in the old Hayashi building, Turbo Kick provided by Michelle Aikau, team fundraising activities, fun theme laps and contest all night long. Come out and support the fundraising efforts, listen to some great music, get a little exercise and all of this for one cause to find a cure. Luminaria Ceremony – Saturday, October 2 at 9:00pm. The American Cancer Society hosts its Relay For Life of Waimea luminaria lighting ceremony to recognize those touched by cancer. Individuals or companies can make a $5.00 contribution in memory of those who have lost their fight with cancer and in honor of those who have survived.
