The University of Hawaii at Hilo turned on the gas after a non-existent half but fell short 2-1 to Dominican University in a Pacific West Conference match in San Rafael, CA.
The Vulcans are 2-5-1 overall and 1-4-0 in the PacWest.
“We were out of it in the first half and came out and took the match to them in the second,” UHH head coach Marc Miranda said. “We really turned it on in the second half and that’s the way we’d like to play soccer from her on out.
“Our defensive line did a great job and we generated a lot more offense.”
After getting off just five shots in the first half, the Vulcans hammered 14 shots at the goal in the second half while the defense held the Penguins to just four shots.
Trailing 2-0 after the break, Lauren Minami nailed a free kick into the top left corner of the goal just 45 seconds into the second half.
