Big Island Fish Farmers Market at NELHA (Sept. 24)

MEDIA RELEASE

At the Big Island Fish Farmers Market, you can purchase premium seafood produced by aquaculture companies at the Natural Energy Lab of Hawaii. This seafood is featured in some of Hawaii’s finest restaurants — now available to the local community fresh from the farms!

Locally grown produce and sustainably produced specialty food products include lobster, crab, abalone, Kona Kampachi, white shrimp, sturgeon. Also locally grown lettuce, chard, herbs, sweet corn, sweet potatoes, honey, coffee, grass-fed red veal, sausages, tomatoes, macadamia nuts, and more.

The market is held once a month, on the last Friday, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the NELHA Gateway Center.

This market is unique in that it features a variety of sustainably farmed fish and seafood grown on the Big Island. It provides a direct-to-consumer sales outlet for local aquaculture, and allows the community to purchase direct from the farms.

The market also serves to educate the local community about innovative Hawaii aquaculture, with farm presentations and cooking demonstrations by Chef Olelo paa Faith Ogawa.
