Two Kailua-Kona men charged in burglaries

On September 17, Detectives from Area II Criminal Investigation Section charged two Kailua-Kona men in connection with several felony investigations involving residential burglaries and unauthorized control of propelled vehicles.

On September 15 at 11:55 a.m., Kona Patrol Officers responded to an anonymous tip and located and arrested 36-year-old Luke K. Wong and 29-year-old Kaulike F. M. Rice who were on the Makalawena Beach Road in North Kona and found to be in control of a Dodge Dakota pickup truck and a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck reported as being stolen vehicles.

While continuing the investigation, detectives located additional property within the stolen vehicles that was connected with other crimes reported between September 1 and September 15, which occurred in the North Kona area.

Wong was charged with 5 counts of burglary, 1 count of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, 3 counts of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, and 1 count of theft in the second degree. Bail for Wong was set at $175,000.00

Rice was charged with 3 counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and 1 count of resisting arrest. Bail for Rice was set at $31,000.00

Both men are being held at the Kona police cellblock pending an initial court appearance on Monday.
