Recycle Glass Week September 12-18

MEDIA RELEASE

Glass can be recycled endlessly

Recycle those glass containers! The Glass Packaging Institute’s second annual Recycle Glass Week is September 12-18, 2010.

Glass can be recycled endlessly with no loss in quality or purity. An estimated 80 percent of recovered glass containers are made into new glass bottles. In 2008, 35.6 percent of glass beer and soft drink bottles were recycled and 28 percent of all glass containers nationwide.

HI-5 glass beverage containers such as juice, soda and beer containers can be redeemed at any one of the 17 HI-5 Redemption Centers islandwide.

Non- HI-5 glass food and drink containers, like jelly jars, shoyu bottles and even wine and liquor bottles, can be recycled at County Transfer Station recycling areas in the glass recycling bin. Please no windows, light bulbs or other non-food or drink containers.
