Amended child support guidelines now in effect

MEDIA RELEASE

New child support guidelines took effect Aug. 29, superseding all
prior guidelines and amendments. The amended child support guidelines and interactive worksheets are posted on the Judiciary’s website.

Among other changes, the new guidelines reflect the 2009 Federal Poverty
Guidelines for Hawaii and increases the minimum child support from $50 to $70.

Also, the 2010 guidelines attempt to better explain and simplify the
calculation of child support.

Hawaii Revised Statues 576D-7(c) requires the Family Court and the Child
Support Enforcement agency to update the child support guidelines every
four years.
