From 6:30 to 8:00 p.m, on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, enjoy an evening of Hawaiian hula and music with Haunani’s Aloha Expressions. The free performance will take place at the Kilauea Visitor Center in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park.

Haunani’s Aloha Expressions is a performing group of kane and wahine kupuna—Hawaiian elders ranging in age from 70 to 90 years old. The men and women meet regularly as part of the Alu Like Kupuna Program and are active community volunteers.

They sing and dance hapa-haole hula, make all their own costumes and lei, and have performed at Hawai‘i Volcanoes’ annual cultural festival for many years.

The group shares the spirit of aloha with visitors arriving at the Port of Hilo and Hilo Airport. They entertain patients at Life Care Center, Hale ‘Anuenue, Hawai‘i Island Adult Day Care, Aunty Sally Kaleohano Lu‘au House Senior Program and more. They were the overall winners of the Kupuna Competition with the song Tutu E and have won the Moku o Keawe competition on numerous occasions. Their performance is part of ‘Ike Hana No‘eau, a series of Hawaiian cultural programs sponsored by Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park and the Hawai‘i Natural History Association.

Park entrance fees may apply.
