Hamakua CDP Steering Committee to hold first meeting on Tuesday (Aug 31)

MEDIA RELEASE

The Hamakua Community Development Plan Steering Committee will be holding its first meeting on Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at 5 p.m. at the Laupahoehoe Public Library Humanities Room.

The tentative agenda includes:

  • elections of the chair and vice chairpersons
  • an overview of community participation and preliminary input gathered through previous talk-story sessions and surveys
  • an introduction to the Planning Consultant Team
  • a presentation for the draft CDP Project Workplan Draft for Steering Committee review and input.

The Steering Committee’s purpose is to ensure that the CDP reflects community input to the CDP. Steering Committee meetings are monthly “business” meetings where issues are discussed and decisions are made according to the CDP process.

The meetings are open to the public and testimony related to items on the agenda is welcome. Oral public testimony will be taken at the beginning of each meeting. By August 25, a final meeting agenda and related documents will be distributed through the email announcements list (see “How to Stay Informed” at www.hamakuacdp.info). They also will be posted in the “Steering Committee” section of www.hamakuacdp.info. Meeting minutes will be made available in the same way.

Due to the large geographic size of the CDP planning area, and the desire to ensure maximum community participation, monthly CDP Steering Committee meetings will rotate through the three CDP planning districts — Hāmākua, North Hilo and Rural South Hilo — at fixed locations for the duration of the planning process. The next CDP update will include the Steering Committee meeting schedule for 2010-2011.
