DUI stats for the week of August 10-15

During the week of August 10, 2010, through August 15, 2010, Big Island police arrested 36 motorists for drunk driving. Nine of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Three were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 956 DUI arrests compared with 860 during the same period last year, an increase of 11.2 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 842 major accidents so far this year compared with 997 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15.5 percent.

So far this year, there were 20 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 13 during the same period last year, an increase of 53.8 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
