As of 6:30 p.m. police are still on scene investigating the crash with the Puna bound lanes of Highway 11 still closed to traffic. Motorists should seek alternate routes. Police hope to have to road open by 7 p.m. to Puna bound traffic.

Hilo bound traffic is unaffected though crews are removing the wreck reducing traffic to one lane.

Police said shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday (Aug 15) two cars were involved in the crash. The red Honda sedan, in photo above, was involved in an incident earlier in the day where a police car was hit with the vehicle.

The Honda was reported as stolen and was travelling west on Mamaki Street when it entered the intersection with Highway 11 and collided with a car travelling in the Puna bound lane on Highway 11.

A male and female passenger of the Puna bound vehicle were taken to the hospital for possibly a broken leg of the woman. Their injuries were reported to be be non-life threatening.

The red Honda sedan was torn apart and the lone male driver suffered minor injuries with cuts and was taken into custody by police and the roadway was opened to traffic after 7 p.m.

Three people were taken to Hilo Medical Center after two cars crashed about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15 at the intersection of Mamaki Street and Highway 11 in Puna.

According to police, a vehicle on Mamaki Street driven by a male in his 20s was hit by a vehicle driven by a 61-year-old male on Highway 11 headed toward Puna.

Both drivers and an elderly female passenger were taken to the hospital.
Also, police have confirmed one of the vehicles involved in the collision was part of an earlier police pursuit.

Police closed the Puna-bound lanes for more than three hours.

UPDATED  August 16, 2010

Police have identified the driver of the Honda as Alexander Borrero III who had been wanted by police for multiple bench warrants.

UPDATED: 4:00 p.m. Aug. 16

POLICE MEDIA RELEASE

Alexander Borrero

Alexander Borrero III

Big Island police arrested a 32-year-old Hilo man for first-degree negligent injury Sunday (August 15) immediately following a major traffic collision at the intersection of Highway 11 and Mamaki Street in Hilo.

Alexander Borrero III was arrested at the scene of the 3 p.m. collision after witnesses informed investigators that the Honda sedan he was driving on Mamaki Street crossed onto Highway 11 at a high rate of speed in front of a 1990 Toyota Camry, which was traveling in a Volcano-bound lane and hit the Honda. The force of the collision caused the Honda to break in two.

The driver and sole occupant of the Honda, which was reported as stolen, became pinned under the front half of the car. Police officers extricated him from the rubble.

Medics took the driver of the Camry, a 61-year-old Hilo man, his passenger, a 86-year-old Hilo woman, and Borrero to Hilo Medical Center. The driver of the Camry was treated and released for his injuries. His passenger remains at the hospital in stable condition. Borrero is confined to the hospital in serious condition.

Earlier in the day, at approximately 1:45 p.m., police had been investigating two reported sightings of a stolen truck in the Puna area when they first made contact with Borrero. Based on descriptions from witnesses, a man last seen fleeing on foot from the stolen truck was suspected of being inside a Honda parked on the side of Paradise Drive in Hawaiian Paradise Park.

During this contact, the driver of the Honda, in an apparent effort to flee, reversed toward the officer’s vehicle at a high rate of speed, nearly running over him as he stood next to a marked police car. The officer was brushed by the vehicle when his equipment became caught on the car and was dragged a short distance before he was able to free himself. The officer did not require any immediate medical attention.

Officers’ efforts to stop the Honda were quickly terminated when pursuing officers determined that it would be detrimental to the public to continue.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., police began receiving reports of a car driving recklessly in Mountain View. Responding officers located the vehicle near Aloha Estates and attempted to stop it but were unsuccessful, as it sped away. Officers again terminated the pursuit in the Mountain View area and the vehicle continued in the Kea’au direction.

Police elected to follow the car at a distance to monitor its location. Officers looking for the vehicle on Mamaki Street observed the Honda traveling East on Mamaki Street at a high rate of speed as officers headed in the opposite direction. A short time after the Honda passed the officers, it collided with the Camry at Highway 11.

Borrero remains in police custody at Hilo Medical Center while detectives with the Criminal Investigations Section continue their investigation. Police initiated additional criminal cases in connection with this series of events, including a first-degree attempted murder case for the act of backing the Honda into the police officer.

Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the events leading to it call Acting Lieutenant Reed Mahuna at 961-2252.Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.

      • Lei says:

Sorry, but… Your cousin is an IDIOT. Stealing cars and then driving recklessly on roads known where families drive for the zoo! I'm not saying he deserved more like the other guy.. He should be grateful for his life and this was a lesson from God.

      • B.S says:

YOU should be ashamed!!! I would not be proud to be that ******s cousin. This world would be a better place without ******s like that who have to respect for other peoples lives. Oh by the way im sure that at one point or another our tax paying money probably was spent on amistake or two of yours or even one of your family members!!! Well… Your cousin should be ashamed of himself! Because he decides to be a criminal, innocent people have to suffer!!! For example: The poor people he smashed into, or the innocent people who had their car stolen…. and why??? All because of IDIOTS like your cousin! You wanna talk about GOOD people… huh why should we be expected to have no judgment on him, when IT'S HIM THAT CAUSED SO MUCH GRIEF TO THOSE AROUND HIM!!?? So many people have their lives turned upside down… BECAUSE OF THESE CRIMINALS!!~!!

We were heading down from the zoo, & seen cop cars reversing out of the side drive. The red sedan came flying out in reverse, & we sped forward and pulled over. I don't know how it missed us, but thank God it did because we had our 2 keiki in the car. It reversed up & the cops went after the car, but the red sedan ended up speeding forward through the cops, passed us again and into the intersection. There was like 6 cops….I don't know how that car made it through! I'm glad that everyone is OK….The couple in the car was elderly…so scary! We were tripping out, especially with a 4 year old, and 17 month old. Happened right in front of us, & we were the only car in the middle of it all! Someone was watching over us. Take care & Be Safe!

    • Lei says:

Well i can say the driver is an idiot. Knowing that road has a zoo and there will be kids in cars and families! It's good everyone is okay and it's a MIRACLE that everyone is okay. There are really angels watching you. This guy is gonna never forget this for the rest of his life.. and i hope he reads your post.. knowing he could endanger your kids!

  12. debbie says:

Thank God that this boy's family isn't waking up this morning to have to face a horrible tragedy that so many family have had to endure. I'm glad the innocent victims in this are o.k. We are praying for you.

  13. juli says:

The unfortunate part is that because the victims in the other car were elderly, they wont heal as fast and the trauma from this accident might shorten their life. Any doctor will tell you that elderly who have trauma late in their life sometimes die soon after. The driver in the red car IS a HUGE IDIOT. Becuase these elderly people didnt die, he'll get a slap on his wrist and will be stealing cars and driving reckless in no time. I hope they put who he is so that when others see him on the road they watch out for that stupid idiot. dummy!!!

    • Mercy says:

That Idiot is someones family member. All you people act like your so perfect and that you or someone you love hasnt done anything crazy and foolish before. what he did was idiotic I agree, but calling him an idiot is plain wrong. Also you don't know the whole story. next time it may be someone you love.. Idiot

      • guest says:

Are you kidding me!? What he did WAS idiotic because he was an IDIOT! Look at that car…that is one of the scariest things I have ever seen he could have easily killed people…would you expect us to say 'ohh he killed those people but hes not an idiot he just did an idiotic thing'. Im sorry that this is your cousin but come on this could have been very tragic. And there is NO excuse for this kind of behavoir I dont care what 'the whole story' is.

        • SECRETz says:

ITS NOT AN EXCUSE ITS CALLED SUPPORT BUT WHEN DA IDIOT IN YOUR FAMILY DOES SOMETHING IDIOTIC AND FOOLISH AND IN DANGER LIFES WHAT WOULD U DO? LET EVEYBODY TALK DOWN ON YOUR LOVED 1..GOD BLESS U CHILD!!

      • lili says:

If that was my family member, than i would be related to an IDIOT. What if that was your Tutu's in the other car, you would be calling him what he is…..an IDIOT. He should be ashamed of what he did and the shame he just cost his family…..idiot.

  14. Rae says:

I agree with Lei – the driver of the STOLEN car is an IDIOT! How dare you get in a STOLEN vehicle, drive like an IDIOT – endangering everyone else on the road. Do us all a favor – GET A JOB – be RESPONSIBLE and ride the HELO ON! With regard to praying for all because "that's what good people do" – that's all fine and well. But GOOD, HONEST, RESPONSIBLE, LAW ABIDING citizens don't STEAL and ENDANGER innocent people. i hope he gets locked up for a long time. Now, that's something he is deserving of!

  15. Kelly says:

I was stuck in the puna bound traffic and saw the car coming back into Hilo and I thought for sure nobody survived that crash. It is a miracle that no one died! I got chicken skin seeing that vehicle. I will pray for all involved in this unfortunate event. The Lord works in mysterious ways and he may use any or all of these people as a testimony of how he can turn a person's life around. I am by no means condoning auto theft but if you saw it with your own eyes there was a reason nobdy died. Let's hope that reason turns out to be a positive rather than a negative!!

  16. Uncle Freddy says:

Yes, I agree everybody should pray for those innocent people who were minding their own business, trying to enjoy life. We should also pray for THAT IDIOT who crashed into them, driving down the road LIKE AN IDIOT. I don't care that I don't know the "whole story". Who cares? He was an IDIOT and will probably remain one. Mercy, how would feel if he whacked a car full of your neices, nephews, aunties and uncles? His whole family should take turns smacking him in the head and kicking him in the Okole for embarrasing the entire ohana. Babooz!!

    • Jesussaves says:

Why pray for just the innocent people. This man is human and commited a crime, but does that mean that we shouldnt pray for him.. In God there is hope for everyone. I believe there is hope for this man. God saved his life for a reason. i believe that as long as we still have breath, God can change and transform our lives. This young man is in a lot of trouble, but there is always calm after the storm, and God isn't finished with this young man yet. I know this because without God on his side he would have not survived.. God Bless everyone in this situation, my prayers are with the elderly couple and the young man and his family. Amen

      • SECRETz says:

YES..AMEN TO DAT!! NEVER JUDGE YOUR ENEMY PRAY FOR THEM AS IF GOD WOULD!! HE IS THE REASON WHY WE ARE ALL HERE AND HE CAN TAKE US RIGHT OUT!!

  17. iPo GuRl says:

ALL U GUYS SHOULD JUST SHUT THE **** UP AND STOP TALKIN LIKE THAT…WHAT IF THAT WAS U?!? U WOULDNT WANT PPL TALKIN BOUT U CALLIN U NAMES OVA THE DAYUM INTERNET!! 18. Ama says:

well it's obvious that "idiot" runs in the family. He made a choice and innocent victims paid for that choice; stop making exusses for him…own it!

    • MEME says:

      Shut up!!!

    • Y JUDGE says:

ama **** you and no one is making excuses for him,yes he made a mistake and he will pay for it in due time.he is in award of the state and is in custody but he also needs immediate treatment for his injuries.so if no one has anything positive to say get the **** off the internet and get a ******g life.my heart goes out to all that was involved even the ederly couple.may god bless them all.

      • Ama says:

Why would I have anything positive to say about this guy, he endangered too many lives. I have every right to be on the internet, this is a "public" forum. If you can't handle that – log off!

      • Mel says:

Are you trying to say he is a "ward" of the state? And don't you mean "especially the elderly couple", and not "even the elderly couple"? I agree with Ama in that this is a public forum, and the point of it, and what you have taken full advantage of, is the fact that anyone can make a comment on this topic of interest. Being crass, and using vulgar language is obviously all part of it otherwise you wouldn't have been able to do so yourself. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen….

  19. gUEST says:

IF YOU GUYS DON'T HAVE ANYTHING GOOD TO SAY THAN JUST SHUT UP!!! BOTTOM LINE, NOBODY IS PERFECT THAT IS WHY jESUS CHRIST DIED FOR US. tHIS MAN WAS WRONG AND WILL FACE CONSEQUENCES. BUT BY THE LOOKS OF THAT CAR, GOD SPARED HIS LIFE FOR A REASON. i'M GLAD THE ELDERLY COUPLE WASNT BADLY HURT,, AND DON'T BE SO MEAN, HIS FAMILY WASN'T AT FAULT AND THEY HAVE TO READ THIS..

    • Guest1 says:

Oh dear, there everyone goes .. preaching like theres no tomorrow like they always do when ***t hits the fan.

btw, he IS an idiot. Saying he made a mistake is not going to make him any less of an idiot. If you need to the definition of the word I’ll lay it out for you, “a foolish or senseless person.”

I’d say there is no question that this guy was a completely foolish and senseless person.

    • guestwahine says:

Does the family understand that no one is judging your cousin, calling him a criminal is just the facts, no judgement. The public has a right to be VERY UPSET that this person is out there stealing cars, driving recklessly all over Puna, not getting caught and almost killing innocent people! I really feel for the 61 year old man and his 86 year old mother, just driving the Panaewa stretch minding their own business, and BAM, they could have been dead. How you would feel if this car thief was a stranger and had just stolen your car?
I'll bet you would not be saying Dont be so judgemental , just pray for him! Yes, praying is good, but let people express their anger! That is healthy!

  20. guestwahine says:

This car thief has had his picture in paper over and over lately for bench warrants, what is SAD to me is when his TON of local family members cover up for him and don't turn him in and now he causes this horrible accident! Stop hiding criminals Big Island families., it could have been your own child killed in this crash! Turn em in and let them get help before it's too late!

    • Guest1 says:

Easy for you to say when It's not your Son, Brother, Father, or Uncle.. Easy to talk when your not in that situation yah. All everyone wants to do is talk s__t Just shut up

    • Y JUDGE says:

AYE WHO ARE YOU TO TALK ABOUT HIS FAMILY MEMBERS,YOU DONT KNOW JACK ABOUT HIS FAMILY SO SHUT UP!WHAT IF IT WAS YOUR FAMILY MEMBER THAT WHEN DRIVE RECLESS AND CAUSED AN ACCIDENT THEN WHAT YOU THINK YOU COULD HANDLE ALL THE NEGATIVE TALK,I DONT THINK SO.ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE AND FOR YOUR 411 JESUS DIED ON THE CROSS FOR ALL US SINNERS AND NOBODY IS PERFECT NOT EVEN YOU SO STOP WITH ALL THE COLD BITTER HEART ACTS CAUSE LET ME TELL YOU IF IT WAS YOUR FAMILY MEMBER YOU WOULDNT EVEN BEGIN TO KNOW HOW TO HANDLE ALL THIS NEGATIVE TALKS FROM EVERYBODY.AND DONT TALK TO FAST CAUSE YOU DO HAVE LOVED ONES OUT THERE THAT COULD MESS UP BIG TIME!!YOU IS NOT PERFECT MAY GOD BLESS YOU FOR HE SHALL HEAL YOU FROM ALL YOUR BAD JUDGEMENTS FROM YOUR COLD HEART

  21. SECRETz says:

WOW…WELL I KNOW HE DID A VERY BAD THING BUT I DONT THINK EVERYBODY NEEDS TO BE SO CRITICIZING ABOUT IT…GOD DID KEEP HIM HERE 4 A REASON AND NOBODY HAS THE RIGHT TO JUDGE HIM BUT GOD..ITS AMAZING HE IS ALIVE AND BY DA LOOK OF THE CAR GOD IS REALLY WITH HIM.. I FEEL THAT EVERYBODY SHOULD PRAY INSTEAD OFCRITICIZNG!! THANK GOD EVERYBODY IS OK AND STILL WITH US AND THERE FAMILYS. GOD IS GOOD AND IS CARRYING THE HIGHER POWER OVER US AND IM GREATFUL FOR HIM!! GOD BLESS THE FAMILIES AND LOVED ONES THAT ARE INVOLVED IN SITUATIONS LIKE THIS..AMEN!!

    • LeaveGodOutOfIt! says:

I think we need to stop using God as the reason why this person is still alive. What it is, is not God looking out for him, but just sheer luck. He is LUCKY that he has survived and nothing worse has happened to him yet. Where God was involved was in keeping those poor victims alive after that crash, and hopefully will watch over them as they recover. As someone with several "idiots" in my 'ohana I would be the first to kick him/her in the butt and turn him over if he was doing something as idiotic as stealing cars, hitting cops, and getting into a high speed car chase near a Zoo, especially if they continuously did these idiotic things with no efforts to rehabilitate.

If you are his 'ohana you should probably spend less time reading these forums and backing him up, and more time helping him to make better choices in his life so that he doesn't endanger other innocent people out there.

LEAVE GOD OUT OF THIS!!!! Stop falling back on him as an excuse for everything so that everything seems right in your world, and people should just start being accountable for their stupid decisions.

      • SECRETz says:

ITS OBVIOUS HOW U DONT HAVE ANY LOVED ONES CAUSE U DONT HAVE THE SLIGHTEST CLUE ON HOW IT FEELS AND U MUST NOT BELIEVE IN GOD CAUSE HE DID PLAY A PART IN SAVEING LOTS OF LIFES DAT DAY AND DID BLESS DA YOUNG MAN AND EVERYONE ELSE IN DAT INCIDENT..THATS WHY THEY ARE STILL HERE!!DUH!! GOD WILL BLESS YOU 2 IF U LET HIM..;)

      • Guest1 says:

I agree! You put everything that I was thinking when reading some comments in this reply.

        Thanks!

      • SECRETz says:

WELL GOD IS THE REASON WE ARE HERE AND LIKE I SAID HE CAN TAKE US RIGHT OUT!! GOD IS THE REASON EVERYONE IS STILL ALIVE SO LEAVE YOUR 2 SENSE OUT OF IT!! GOD BLESS YOU!!;)..BELIEVE IN GOD..

      • SECRETz says:

that is evryones problem they leave GOD out of their lives and thats where everything starts messing up!!! Thats why this world with all of the people in it is sooooooo messed up!!! if everyone had GOD in their lives they would realize that instead of being so judgemental towards everyone else and stay focused on working on them selves as far as having a relationship with GOD this world would be such a wonderful place to be in!! please work on yourself and all your skeletons and let god work on him!!!

        • LeaveGodOutofIt says:

Whoah, okaaaay, sooo not understanding what I was trying to say. So let me just drop my last “2 sense”. Although people have so often stated in their comments to “not judge, because God will have the final say”, there seems to be a lot of judging and commentary in regards to what other people think that may differ from their own mana’o. So in the essence of not trying to judge…I appreciate all of the comments that were stated and agree that too many people do leave God out of their lives (this is me putting it out there and making an assumption, that the ***** driving the car, ooops sorry, that was a bit judgemental. The young man who has lost his way has probably left God out of his life for a while). But if you really truly read, and try to comprehend what I was saying, there is no way that you can misconstrue it.

          • LeaveGodOutofIt says:

I in no way said to leave God out of your life, but to have people stop using God as an excuse as to why dumb actions like this young man made (going through a high speed car chase, hitting a cop, endangering many lives, and actually injuring 2 elderly people) and his surviving it as DIVINE INTERVENTION…and GOD HAS A PLAN. Honestly, God does have a plan, and I would hate to be in that guys shoes. So just remember that while we are ALL not judging one another.
I would also like to point out the mixed signals like leaving our 2 sense out of it, and work on your skeletons (hmmm that's a rather big assumption, and a little judgemental that I have skeletons because I don't believe the way you do???) and in the same breath saying, "Oh by the way God Bless"…please, we can see right through all that. Mahalo, but I don't need you to tell me God Bless, I know he does, but thanks anyway.

    • Guest1 says:

Thank you that was a good coment, Well Put. Amen

  22. kainoa says:

i think what he did is wrong and he probably knows that himself but in the split second of the moment he made a bad judgement call. doesn't all of you have a time in your life when you think you can make that yellow before it turns red and you end up in the intersection just as cars are pulling out. i've seen it many of times. thats a bad judgment call. so if you do that and cause an accident should you go to jail for a very long time for being an idiot. i think not. but chancing the light makes u and idiot. your putting lives at risk by taking that chance.

    • Guest1 says:

Umm I don't think comparing this guy to a person that gases it through a yellow light is at all appropriate. Those are two completely different situations.

I mean if you were a person who had a bench warrant, banged into a cop car, almost ran over a police officer, drove recklessly though a street where keikis go (zoo), and tried to speed it across the panaewa stretch than maybe you can compare the two.. but other than that they're not the same.

  23. kainoa says:

also the reason that everyone is so touchy with this topic is because he was in a stolen car and many of cars was stolen lately so there are some very upset people out there. i don't blame them but thats what this town is comming too and believe me when i say he is not the only car theif in town. he's just 1 of the few that got caught. but there is stealing going on everyday, cars stores, money, things. people are getting crazy to survive. if everyone of u would open up your hearts to a person that you see in need at least once this town would be a better place. u see people on the side of the road ask if they need help. u might just help a car thief get his own car started then he wouldn't end up taking someone elses that night.lol i know it sounds funny but its true. i try to help as much as i can and it pays off. i have all different types of friends and i get blessed alot in life. help a person in life, and make a difference. u might turn a persons bad day into a good one……

  24. moderate mame says:

How can anyone defend this gentleman? It does not matter that God spared him or that no one was badly hurt or even that he has devoted family; he is still a person who disregarded the law and the safety of many people. He did several illegal and stupid things in the course of a couple hours. He deserves to be charged for his criminal activity and to suffer the consequences of his choices.

    • Y JUDGE says:

true he should pay for what he did but he is human after all and by judgeing him isnt gonna make things all better.only god should judge and us as his people which he died on the cross for our sins should obey his rules from his book and not be judgemental.instead we sould all just give all those that were affected by this incident our prayers and hope for everyone to recover from thia bad nightmare!

    • WHY says:

wERE NOT DEFENDING HIM, JUST LOVING HIM AND PRAYING FOR HIM. WE DON'T LIKE WHAT HE DID. BUT WE LOVE HIM.

  25. SECRETz says:

    OHH BECAUSE WE CAN..

    • GODHELPUS says:

obviously, LeaveGodOutOfit, YOU ARE NOT A CHRISTIAN!!! As christians we don't leave God out of it and we don't just pray for the innocent we also pray for the guilty, and the lost. Luck has nothing to do with it. there is no such thing as luck, that is just plain superstition. God wants us all to repent for our sins and give our lives to him. This young man obviously has family members praying for him, and God heard thyre prayers. This man is going to face his crime thats for sure, but I my prayer is that he accepts christ in his life, get help turn his life around so that God may be glorified through all this. We can't leave God out. that is why our world is so corrupted, because we LEAVE GOD OUT.without god, we are lost sheep!!!As for his ohana, it doesnt sound to me like they are making excuses, but that they do love him and want him to turn his life around. God Bless everyone involved. AMEN AMEN

      • LeaveGodOutOfit says:

Oh please save me GODHELPUS, help redeem me and my pagan ways. Bring the light of God into my life that only you and how you believe in God can do, because there is only one way to believe in God right? I thought Christians don't judge????Hmmm???? Sounds like you're making judgements about me, they were obviously not observations because you were not able to discern from my comment the underlying thoughts that I was sharing.
What I am sick of is people constantly thinking that God will take care of it, and that in itself is why "Christians" like yourself turn a blind eye to these people and hope that someone else deals with the ugliness of these situations. We'll pray for him…families and friends keep saying, instead of grabbing them by the back of their neck or kicking them in their butt. Heaven yes God will deal with it on his time, but God also gave us free will…and I will use my free will to do what it takes to keep idiots like this out of my life, and the life of my family if they cannot use THEIR free will to make good decisions.

  26. LeeAnn Borero says:

Sorry my family isn't perfect. he made a mistake he knows it and i know it. And no we wasn't covering for him. he is his own person. thats my BROTHER and i LOVE him no matter what. its like he could of done a million good deeds and get no recognition but 1 F— up and hes the worlds baddest person. rather you guys wanna beleive it or not he is a DAMN good person. just made some bad choices in life. just like everyone else. I LOVE YOU MY BRADDA

  27. HILO says:

interesting for all of his family members…if the situation was reversed and the elderly people were your dad or grandmother, you would be LIVID and hating on that guy like CRAZY. and apparently this isn't the FIRST time he's gotten into trouble. stop making excuses. nobody is saying that he's not human and he doesn't deserve to be loved, but he does deserve punishment for such an IDIOTIC act, no matter WHAT the reason was. Yes we do have family members that constantly get into trouble but we don't make excuses for them!

  28. lili says:

    To the family members-

If he was not a family member, what would you call him? an IDIOT

What if that was your Tutu in the other car, who is in the hospital right now because of his idiotic actions, what would your impression of this man be? IDIOT

    and…..

If this IDIOT was a family member of mine, than I would be related to an IDIOT.

Plain and simple, an IDIOT made IDIOTIC judgements and choices, and this IDIOT is lucky he didnt kill anyone, and this IDIOT needs to be locked up so he doesnt do anymore IDIOTIC things.

    • Y JUDGE says:

i would not call him names instead i would be praying for this man who in deed needs the help, and as far as where his family is i would think they would be doing the same praying that their son will get better and try to get help.no one should be called names at all.thats not right.and if it was anyones grandparents it would be heartfelt as well.this is a touchy situation and no one is saying that he is perfect but you yourself is not perfect either so get a grip.

  29. mike says:

Give me a break. You people are so full of yourselves. "oh he made a mistake. Oh hes a good person… blah blah blah blah"

HE TRIED TO RUN OVER A COP!

    He stole a car.

He nearly killed 2 elderly people.

You want to support him? Take him to jail.

If you are so willing to support him now, wheres the support before? Why is he doing the things hes doing?

Guess what, when my kid does something wrong I dont go "oh hes just human, its ok" I tell him to cut it out and punish him. Does it mean I dont love him? No. Does it mean that I think hes a bad person? No. Does it mean hes doing bad things? yeah. Should I let him go? Of course not. No one learns from being let go to do it again.

If you really want to support him. Help him by taking him to jail where he can get the help he needs. Its obvious he wasnt getting it before.

    • Y JUDGE says:

WHAT THE **** YOU TALKING ABOUT YOU F**KING IDIOT,HE IS GOING TO JAIL SO SHUT THE **** UP.WHAT YOU THINK THAT YOU ARE PERFECT BULL****.HE WILL DO HIS TIME WHEN HE HEALS.AND AS A CHILD YES YOU CAN BE CONTROLLED BUT WHEN YOU BECOME AN ADULT YOU THEN MAKE YOUR OWN DECISIONS.WHAT YOU THINK FOR EVERY *****D UP PERSON THAT DOES WRONG EVERYBODY SHOULD BLAME THE PARENTS OR FAMILIES,HELL NO!PEOPLE DO WORK YOU KNOW.I REALLY HATE TO SEE ANY OF YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS GET HURT CAUSE ALL YOU GOING DO IS GIVE OUT NEGATIVE AND NO POSITIVE.IF ANY OF YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS DIE PLEASE DO THEM A FAVOR AND DONT SHOW UP MR.MIKE!!!!!

  30. Nalo Gyrl says:

Dammnnnn!!! Everybody is going at it on this page.

To the ohana: Yes, everyone has one in the family and yes, my family has a few! I don't make excuses for them; although we still love them…they will own up to their mistakes and to the ohana…thank GOD that elderly people are okay. Because honestly, if that was my grams or gramps…all hell would break loose!

To everyone else hating this human being: NOBODY'S PERFECT & ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE HIM! Da good Lord knows I ain't perfect but we all just thank the Lord nobody died in this accident.

  31. donesies says:

Ohhhhkayyy. These comments are getting a little crazy. So in summary this is what I'm seeing,

    He's an idiot…
    but he's only human…
    but he's an idiot…
    that's my family…
well he needs to be accountable…
he made idiotic decisions, he's not an idiot…
    stop making excuses for him…
    I'M NOT MAKING EXCUSES IT'S CALLED SUPPORT!!!…
support, he needed support earlier in his life so he wouldn't be making these idiotic decisions…
HE'S ONLY HUMAN AND WILL MAKE HIS OWN DECISIONS AS AN ADULT!…
    Yah, dumb decisions…
Stop judging, only God will make the final judgement, look to your own self and your own skeletons before judging others…
    Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah…

    • donesies says:

Really there's not much more to be said, I've just summarized this whole commentary in its entirety. There is nothing new anyone can say so let's just end it. He's someones family, and they will not see it from anyone elses point of view, and you can't make them see yours. Let's just stop beating a dead horse, although I agree with most of you and are in the, "he's an idiot" camp, we gotta let it go already. Have a good weekend everyone.

  32. Mrs. Inocencio says:

Yes, we can all say he's an idiot or whatever other names you have in mind. Most of us don't know this guy. He mad a huge mistake. We just have to think "what made him make this mistake?". It could be a million things gone wrong in his life which he lost hope or whatever reason he felt he had to do these things.
I am just glad everyone is okay and no one was hurt. Let this be a big lesson to all of us!

  33. guestwahine says:

ICE KILLS ………………………………………..and prison is a detox and sober house……lucky his family prays for him or he would be dead. Now they can at least know he is sober and safe, now they can sleep at night. I feel alot of aloha for his family….

      • Kainoa says:

Ipo Gurl, obviously you are young. We can tell by the way you write and the way you let out your feelings. I think you should shut your immature mouth and take in everything that people are saying. You are just making yourself look stupid. Go back to school and learn how to spell.

  34. iPo gUrL says:

    • Hkdonphonicswrked4me says:

You're an idiot. I should take a copy of your posts to the BOE (that's Board of Education if you didn't know) as evidence as to why furlough fridays should be stopped. If we keep taking away teaching days then all our kids will sound like this. Grow up, learn how to spell, build on your vocabulary so you don't have to refrain to swearing all the time, and maybe you have a chance. Hard not to judge people when you make it so easy to do so.

      • Kainoa says:

Yeah, you make yourself look like you are the one on crack Ipo Gurl. Hard to take anyone seriously when they write the way you do. Too much chatting? Not enough school? Are you 12? Use your family member as an example of what not to be like. Go to school get a better education and become a lawyer because you are good at arguments. It could work for you.

      • KornChewr says:

@Hkdonphonicswrked4me – Agreed 99%. That is what I was thinking the entire time while reading this thread, but dude… if you are going to post just to criticise spelling and gramatical errors, you reeeealy should not make your own. One does not “refrain to” anything. I would agree that they should “refrain from” swearing, but i believe the word you are looking for is “resort” – so they don’t have to “resort to” swearing all the time.

In regards to this thread as a whole, donesies hit it on the head. I would add that nobody can blame the family for coming up to bat for one of their own; in fact, I have to admire the closeness that they clearly have in their family. However,as Hkdonphonicswrked4me points out, it does your cause a great disservice to write the way that you do. Regardless of how passionately you want to defend your family member, when you are defending them from people who are calling him an idiot, it does not bode well for your side of the argument when you sound like one yourselves.

        • Hkdonphonicswrkd4me says:

Mahalo KornChewr for the correction. It was a silly mistake that was more a result of my emotions getting a hold of me then not recognizing that I actually made a mistake. And to just return the favor, I think you meant “yourself” and not “yourselves” at the end of your comment. :=)

          • KornChewr says:

Nope, I was refering to multiple people, so the plural “yourselves” is appropriate. ;)

  35. local girl says:

As a resident in an area that has been a recent target to theft, I have to say that I agree with much that has been said. As a victim of crime, all I can say is he was lucky it wasnt my car. To his family, I understand that he made a mistake. I also understand the feeling that you need to protect him. However, in 6 months come back and read your statements to realize just how uneducated you sound. This is one of the major problems with todays people, in the past while the family gave their love and support….but it was still shame! Here we have one individual who wants to scrap and use obscenities. I know that I am not perfect hunny…but just remember most likely my tax dollas stay pay for put food in your mouth…..sincerely one pissed off local ps go back school and learn fo spell

    • letsmoveon says:

Mahalo local girl! I totally agree. This is a public forum in which we discuss public issues such as this. If you don't like what is said then don't read it iPo gUrL. It is the publics right to comment on this regardless if this is your family or not. Knowing that I would probably be mad, upset, but more shame then anything else when reading these comments if this was my 'ohana. As a non-perfect person myself I know we make mistakes, but you better be ready to deal with the consequences that may come along with them. It's reality and how the world works. And piggybacking on local girls mana'o, yelling in all caps, using profanity, throwing silly names out there will not help your cousin either. When you "text talk", misspell words on purpose (I hope on purpose anyway) it takes away the seriousness of your comments, and will not get anyone to respect your thoughts and maybe lay off your cousin like you're asking.

  36. soku says:

This man knows he did wrong. I would still support him in his opportunity to make things right to himself, his family, and to the community. I understand that innocent people were hurt and others could have been hurt also, but he is a person. I’ve been in a situation that I lost one of my really close friends in a car accident. The driver of the car is still alive and I have to see him everyday knowing that my friend is gone because of him. But I look past it. Everyone else should do the same. He will pay for his crimes and even though it may not seem as if he does, it will be a memory. I still have memories of my friend and I see it everyday that I see the driver. But I don’t use anything against him. I just know that she is in a good place and he will have to live with his regret for the rest of his life. I think that’s the ultimate punishment. I wish for nothing but the best for all parties involved including their families and friends.
