DUI Stats for the week of August 3-9

During the week of August 3, 2010, through August 9, 2010, Big Island police arrested 36 motorists for drunk driving. Eleven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Five were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 919 DUI arrests compared with 845 during the same period last year, an increase of 8.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 807 major accidents so far this year compared with 974 during the same period last year, a decrease of 17.1 percent.

So far this year, there were 20 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 13 during the same period last year, an increase of 53.8 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
