West Hawaii Dance Academy students and teachers gathered Saturday afternoon to work up a sweat and celebrate National Dance Day.

One of the studio’s newest teachers, Hannah Taylor, put the students (and a couple of other instructors) through their jazz paces as the studio opened its doors to the community.

“Dance is just such a wonderful way to have fun, get some exercise, express yourself and just enjoy life,” said academy founder and artistic director Virginia Holte. “We welcome all dancers – from young to not-so-young, and from novice to experienced.”

Student Jessica Lloyd said she enjoyed the opportunity to dance with students she doesn’t see in her regular classes.

“I had such a good day. National Dance Day was sooooo much fun,” she said. “I loved Hannah’s class.”

In addition to celebrating National Dance Day, the academy unveiled its fall schedule and offered a special rate for students enrolling for the first time.
