DUI stats for the week of July 12-18

During the week of July 12, 2010, through July 18, 2010, Big Island police arrested 35 motorists for drunk driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Six was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 837 DUI arrests compared with 772 during the same period last year, an increase of 8.4 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 729 major accidents so far this year compared with 892 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18.3 percent.

So far this year, there were 18 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 13 during the same period last year, an increase of 38.5 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
