National Dance Day, a grassroots initiative created by Nigel Lythgoe, “So You Think You Can Dance” executive director, encourages the nation, young and old, to move.
West Hawaii Dance Academy will participate in National Dance Day by offering an afternoon of dance led by Academy Instructors, including newest instructor Hannah Taylor. Styles will include jazz, hip hop, contemporary dance, ballet and hula.
“Our ohana, community, individuals, students, parents, and friends are invited to come together through their creative expression in dance and join us in this celebration,” said Academy Artistic Director Virginia Holte.
“Dance is one of our greatest mediums of expression and storytelling which, through shows like ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’ has proven its value in bringing individuals from all walks of life together. Dance has no boundaries and cultivates imagination and passion,” she said. “Most importantly, it promotes health and wellness.”
Holte said she is pleased to open the academy to the entire community on National Dance Day.
“Even if you have never danced, or have always wanted to, but have never had the nerve to try, this is the day,” she said. “It’s open to all ages. Bring your family members and friends!”
Also, registration for the Fall Schedule of classes begins July 31 and in honor of National Dance Day, the Academy will be offering discounted tuition for all students who register that day.
Discounts on merchandise also will be offered July 31.
