A new Azumaya for the Maka‘eo Path

Shinto Priest Daizo Watanabe from Hilo honored the Friends for Fitness by coming to Kona and blessing the new Shinto building at the Maka‘eo walking/jogging path Monday (July 12). The “Shaden” (shrine building) as it is called before the blessing, and “Azumaya” (small building) after the blessing was donated by Carol Jean Nagrodsky Tamburo. The building was assembled at the path by Friends for Fitness, assisted by the Rotarians, under the direction of Ed Cochran.

Special guests of the Shinto religion who honored the occasion by attending the blessing were Hidetaka Sato, Tadao Sakamoto and Mioko Sakamoto of Mauka Kona. Attending were Friends for Fitness members along with adoptees of the park and path users.

Our path is getting better and better all the time. If you haven’t seen all the wonderful additions to it, please stop by.

Wow- what a great looking pagoda. All of you look terrific, too. I’m so glad you left the little table inside the pagoda – the linen cloth makes it look very inviting. Can’t wait to see you all again. Sue (in Michigan)

I was really blessed by the wonderful service. Thanks to everyone who made this possible, and thanks to Nancy for the ono potato salad

Great pictures! I tell everyone I can about the little pagoda! It is so very special! Sharon (from the Girl Scout Garden)
