During the week of June 21, 2010, through June 27, 2010, Big Island police arrested 19 motorists for drunk driving. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic crash.

So far this year, there have been 747 DUI arrests compared with 692 during the same period last year, an increase of 7.9 percent. There have been 656 major accidents so far this year compared with 807 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18.7 percent.

So far this year, there were 18 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 11 during the same period last year, an increase of 63.6 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.

The Department of Water Supply, County of Hawai’i, will be closing the outbound lane of Leilani Street at the intersection of Leilani Street and Railroad Avenue, for the purpose of changing a damaged fire hydrant.

This hydrant replacement will occur on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Average retail gasoline prices in Hawaii have fallen 2.8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.42/g yesterday. This compares with the national average that has increased 0.7 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.74/g, according to gasoline price website HawaiiGasPrices.com.

The “2010 Hilo Bay Blast” will feature activities for families throughout the day at the Hilo Bayfront areas. Working in consultation with the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Kellogg Company (NYSE:K) is implementing a voluntary recall of certain breakfast cereals due to an uncharacteristic off-flavor and smell coming from the liner in the package.

Only products with the letters "KN" following the Better If Used Before Date are included in the recall. Products with a "KM" designation are NOT included in the recall. In addition, no products in Canada are affected.
