DUI stats for the week of June 21-27

During the week of June 21, 2010, through June 27, 2010, Big Island police arrested 19 motorists for drunk driving. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic crash.

So far this year, there have been 747 DUI arrests compared with 692 during the same period last year, an increase of 7.9 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 656 major accidents so far this year compared with 807 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18.7 percent.

So far this year, there were 18 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 11 during the same period last year, an increase of 63.6 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
