CanoeHouse supports McCartney’s ‘Meat Free Monday’

MEDIA RELEASE

With sustainability at the forefront of the culture and operations of the independently-owned Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows, the resort’s CanoeHouse restaurant is taking the lead by supporting Sir Paul, Stella and Mary McCartney’s ‘Meat Free Monday’ environmental campaign.

Named one of the ‘World’s Top Earth-Friendly Getaways’ by Conde Nast Traveler and with solar energy innovations that have earned the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows the distinction of generating the most solar electric power of any luxury resort in the world, the resort’s support of Meat Free Monday is a natural extension of its already significant environmental initiatives.

“Our support of Meat Free Monday is a way that we can help raise awareness of the climate-changing impact of meat production and consumption that is responsible for 18 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions” General Manager Brian Butterworth said. “Our CanoeHouse restaurant will be offering an alternative vegan menu each Monday for those that choose to join this global movement.”

The CanoeHouse’s Meat Free Monday menu will showcase the masterful cuisine of Chef James Ortiaga, working with the freshest local ingredients available sourced within 100 miles of the resort.

Greens from the nearby Hirabara Farms will feature prominently in the menu as will local Hamakua heirloom tomatoes, mushrooms and asparagus.
