MEDIA RELEASE

King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel is giving away $25 gift cards redeemable towards a future stay at the hotel for all donations of yellow or brown ti leaves for the refurbishment of Ahuena Heiau.

The gift cards are valid through Dec. 19, 2010 and some blackout dates may apply.

The community-based non-profit, Ahuena Heiau, Inc. is seeking the community’s support to help gather another 100,000 yellow or brown ti leaves to complete the refurbishment of the revered historic site.

“All of us involved in the restoration and maintenance of this historic treasure applaud King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel for this grand gesture to reward the community for donating ti leaves for our efforts,” said Ahuena Heiau Board Chairman Tom Hickcox.

Yellow or brown ti leaves may be dropped off daily between now and Sunday, June 6 at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. Go to the hotel’s security guard shack at the entrance to the parking lot for instructions on where to drop off the ti leaves.

Ahuena Heiau Inc. ongoing initiatives include an annual maintenance schedule, engaging the community in the heiau’s preservation, maintenance and education programs, fundraising and addressing long-term needs.

Since its inception in 1993, Ahuena Heiau Inc’s mission has been clear and the organization has a sole purpose — to preserve, protect and maintain this treasured site.
