Wish you were here? Punaluu Beach Park

Photos and story by Karin Stanton | Hawaii 24/7 Contributing Editor

Punaluu Beach Park is famous for two things: black sand and turtles.

The black sand beach is about the most accessible on the island and is about the most perfect place to take a few deep breaths and remember just how awesome the Big Island is.

Just watching a turtle do absolutely nothing for five minutes is a nice way to slough off everyday stress.

Visitors, however, sometimes need to be reminded the turtles are doing the same thing. Also, they are endangered species and they are not immune to human bacteria. It can be deadly.

Obviously, visitors too young to read the warning signs are forgiven their little turtle trespasses.

Loved this story. I emailed it to several friends on the mainland who love Hawaii. They will enjoy this.
Thanks Karin, again for writing about Life.
